Part One...

So the first post was an introduction.

Now that we are introduced I will continue.

As I said, this is to explain situations and allow you to make up your own minds about folks and what they do.

I was talking to some good friends of mine last night, Nicole and JD, about peoples driving habits. This is where the blog has stemmed from and it seems that in theory, everyone knows how to use the motorway. 3-4 lanes, and the left lane is where you are supposed to be, the outer lanes are for overtaking only.

Here is the official definition:

Lane discipline

264

You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past.

Geek I know.

So why oh why do people flaunt this rule? Cruising along at 60 mph in the middle lane with no traffic either side is not cool. Talking the other night, we couldn't come up with a single person who disagrees with this rule and everyone we talk to is of the same opinion that it isn't really that hard.

One example that made me fear for these people, was on a recent trip to London. Picture the scene, M25, one of the busiest motorways in the history of the universe. Small red car (can't remember the exact model) lady driver (no, feminists, this isn't a slur on women) doing 55 in the middle lane. Cars passing inside and out. She must have been terrified. But the thing is, that is why there is the left lane. Its comfortable, its slow and above all, it is where you are meant to be.

The major issue I have is that this tomfoolery causes the big jams that I have to fight through each night. It is reducing a 3 lane carriage way down to 2 lanes. That's never going to work with thousands of people all finishing work at 5 o'clock.

So that irks me, as it means that I am late home.

I will finish here for now to try not to bore you to tears with my ranting, but there will be other little examples.

I also want comments and to have some of the perpetrators to come forward and explain this horrible... obsession that people have with causing rage and high blood pressure in their fellow motorists.

For now,

Peace

The Empty Left Lane Begins...

Dear World,

this is my first attempt at blogging. I drive to Crewe (for work) from Manchester every morning. This is quite a trek as Im sure you will agree. Hopefully in this here blog I will entertain you with tales of the road and the exploits of my fellow drivers and give you an insight into what gets on my nerves on the nations biggest car park... the M6.

It will frustrate it will confuse and I think that sometimes you wont believe what I say. People are very stupid when it comes to the motorway. I will probably make reference to anything that gets on my nerves in general as well.

In terms of what impression this blog will give you of the writer is that I am a perfect driver who has never done anything stupid on the road.

And this impression would be right.

I have never pulled out in front of a bus on a blind corner and had a bump. I have never veered over to the exit I have missed and then been tailed and pulled by the police. I have never changed my mind mid manouever.

So as you can see I am well qualified to comment on the quirks of others.

Welcome to the empty left lane.

Mirror signal manouever.
